Pizza Dough

  • 1 packet 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

Pizza Sauce

  • 1 can 14 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • Sautéed mushrooms to taste

Preparation

  • In a bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit until frothy. Mix flour and salt in another bowl. Add yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour, stirring to form dough. Knead on a floured surface for 10 minutes. Let rise in an oiled bowl for 1 hour or until doubled.
  • Combine crushed tomatoes, garlic, and Italian seasoning in a saucepan. Simmer over medium heat for 15 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.

Assembling the Pizza

  • Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  • Spread the sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a border. Sprinkle cheese on top, followed by pepperoni and mushrooms.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 475°F. Bake the pizza on the middle rack for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
