Equipment

  • 1 oven preheated to 475°F
  • 1 pizza stone optional, for best results
  • 1 Rolling Pin

Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt

Pizza Toppings

  • 3-4 heirloom tomatoes sliced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and olive oil. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.

Assembling the Pizza

  • Preheat your oven to 475°F and place a pizza stone inside if using.
  • Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  • Brush the rolled-out dough with olive oil. Arrange tomato and mozzarella slices evenly. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Baking and Serving

  • Transfer the pizza to the preheated stone or baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves. Serve hot.

Storage

  • Place leftover slices in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
