Equipment

  • 1 Baking Sheet lined with parchment paper
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Mixing Bowl large

Ingredients

Flatbread Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Toppings

  • 1 cup fresh mozzarella sliced
  • 2 ripe tomatoes sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Add warm water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place the dough back in the bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • While the dough is resting, slice the mozzarella and tomatoes. Set aside the toppings until ready to assemble the flatbread.

Serving

  • Preheat the oven to 475°F. Roll out the dough on a floured surface until thin. Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the dough with olive oil, then arrange mozzarella and tomato slices evenly over the top. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  • Once the flatbread has cooled slightly, top with fresh basil leaves. Slice and serve warm.

Storage

  • Store any leftover flatbread in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F until warmed through before serving.

Notes

How to Serve: Best served fresh with a side salad or soup.
Storage & Freshness: Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness. Reheat in the oven for a crispy texture.
Make-Ahead Tips: Prepare the dough in advance and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Bring to room temperature before rolling out.
