Ground Beef
- 1 lb ground beef lean preferred
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Mashed Potatoes
- 2 lb potatoes peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup milk warmed
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
Place peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add salt, bring to a boil, then simmer until fork tender.
While potatoes cook, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft, then add garlic and cook briefly until fragrant.
Add ground beef to the skillet, break it apart, and cook until fully browned and cooked through.
Season beef with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and remove from heat.
Drain cooked potatoes well and return them to the pot. Let steam escape briefly before mashing.
Add butter to potatoes and mash until mostly smooth. Slowly add warm milk while mashing until creamy.
Season mashed potatoes to taste, then serve topped with seasoned ground beef.
